Detoxification Of The Body

Monday, 15 March, 2010

Detoxification (detox) can take several shapes and forms from a colon cleanse to fasting and changing lifestyle choices.   The body has the ability to heal itself when given the tools and nutrients it needs.  Unfortunately, the Standard Western Diet doesn’t provide those nutrients and most manufactured vitamins aren’t as bioavailable as we’d like them to be.  Bioavailability means that the vitamins are available to the body to use in the same way that the nutrients are from food.

Detoxification basically means cleansing the body from toxins and chemicals that prevent it from obtaining optimal health.  By removing impurities, or helping the body to clear these impurities, from the blood, liver, kidneys and intestines, the health of every cell in the body improves.  A detox program will rest the organs of the  through fasting, stimulate the liver, promote elimination, improve circulation and enable the body to refuel with healthy nutrients.

The first step in the detoxification process is to lighten the load your body must endure.  Eliminate alcohol, coffee, cigarettes, refined sugars and saturated fats.  All of these things are toxins and obstacles to the healing process.   You should also minimize or eliminate the use of chemical based cleaners and personal care products which leach into the body through the skin and mucous membranes.

Heart

The heart is the very core of our being. It can soothe us when we are in the dip. It makes us feel happy and joyous when we hold a baby or someone hugs us. Laughing massages the heart and gets the good hormones flowing throughout our bodies.

The simple act of walking  has great therapeutic benefits. Yet many of us do not walk or  walk inconsistently or very short distances. As a wanna- be- marathoner again, it’s a sad commentary when I  walk inconsistently or don’t break a sweat in a 3-mile walk. To be of greater benefit to my heart, the 3-miles need to be 5-6 miles at a less brisk pace. This is akin to the long slow distance (LSD) in marathon training.  LSD is a  great way to burn calories. If your weight is putting you at risk for heart disease and stroke, and there are no medical contraindications for walking, pump it up by walking longer distance at a slower pace. That doesn’t mean to go strolling around the shopping mall, crawl to the refrig or leisurely walk to the store (which is around the corner).

May 2009 is Stroke Awareness and Prevention Month. Now is a great time to take steps to help prevent stroke. Your heart and your entire body will love you!

Tom Daschle : Health & Human Services Secretary                           Tom Daschle, the new Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) is a good choice for the department. He will bring his experience as former Senate Majority Leader to the President’s Cabinet. Additionally, he authored the well known book “Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-care Crisis”. It is my understanding, that he will also coordinate the efforts of President Obama’s administration to overhaul and revamp the nation’s health care system, by overseeing the White House Office of Health reform. The Department of  HHS focus is on the protection of all Americans.

The Obama-Biden Health Care Agenda states:
