Registered nurses (RN) were part of the historic event which occured yesterday, when the Health Care Reform was passed. In keeping with that event I feel it is important for all of us to have a better understanding of the professional RN workforce in the United States. At the present moment, there is a need for nurses, primary care and geriatric care providers to care for an aging population( the fastest growing segment of the population). In order to precent an accurate account of the RN workforce in the United States I have written below an excerpt of the document, The Registered Nurse Workforce.
The Registered Nurse Workforce in the United States
As of March 2008, there were approximately 3,063,163 licensed Registered Nurses. This is a 5.3 % increase in the RN population from March 2004. Not all individuals holding an active RN license are employed in nursing. The number of employed nurses and the number of nurses employed full-time have both increased.
As the New Year 2010 approaches, I’ve been reviewing and reflecting on the past year. There has been some challenges and some rewards. The challenges were opportunities to learn from life’s experiences. The rewards afforded me the opportunity to grow and expand.
The interesting thing about reflecting on the past year’s experiences is that it also made me look at the the past five years. Some of you may be looking at the past ten years, a decade of time. Where has the time gone and what did we do with it-how did we utilize the time?
I am grateful for the rewards and the challenges. Without challenges, there would be no rewards. I am grateful that Women’s Wellness 4u has grown and is now under the umbrella of Lifestyle Wellness Enterprise, PLLC.
I am grateful for you, my readers, clients and customers who have stayed the course of time and helped the business grow. I am grateful for all the connections made, the interviews, meeting you on NP on Call, the collaborative collective on Lifestyle Wellness Network, Facebook, Linked-in and Twitter. You have fed my passion for partnering with you in obtaining optimal health and wellness, starting and expanding your holistic, integrative care practices and creating wellness for your families and your businesses. It has been a pleasure watching your entrepreneurial spirit soar, grow as entrepreneurs and take the journey to wellness- as well as stay on course.
The landscape of healthcare has changed- with wellness, health promotion and integrative care being the ‘care’ of choice. What choice are you making now? In one year, what will you be doing?
