The fastest growing segment of the population is older people, the elderly, the aged, boomers, etc. However, as their numbers increase every day, something is missing. That something is gray hair. Generally speaking, as we age the hair turns gray. President Obama is a classic example. It is on rare occasions that I see a woman or man with a beautiful head of natural gray hair. Hair coloring and wigs have, apparently, covered the gray hairs. Coloring is another topic for another time!
A dysfunctional, underactive thyroid can lead to thinning hair. What causes gray hair? There are several postulations. It could be caused by a decrease in Biotin, decreased melanin in the hair, a relative who nags the person constantly, fewer essential amino acids in the body, and stress, especially continuous stress. “Scientists have a hunch that the gray hairs we dread (or welcome) may arrive sooner with stress.”
It doesn’t matter how we slice the cake, sooner or later we age and we also turn gray. Since no link between aging and graying has been found, how soon our hair strains turn gray, depend on our genetic makeup. To everyone born today, I say to you, Happy Birthday!

The National Institute of Mental Health reported that by the year 2020 depression will be the second most common health problem, after heart disease. What a eye opener!
Recently I had the pleasure of talking with a woman who has brought depression from darkness into the light and is working diligently to help reduce the cases of profound depression. she is Terrie M. Williams (picture above), mental health advocate, author and social worker. Williams is also President of her PR company, The Terrie Williams Agency, which is located in New York.
Terrie Williams has not been immune to depression. She lived with low grade depression for a lon period of time. Everyday she would go out into the world with her game face on. In 2004 she was officially diagnosed with depression. The pretense had ended! The depression had become so severe that she couldn’t get out of be and didn’t care if she got out of bed. It took all her energy just to get up. Her friends came to her aide because she wasn’t returning phone calls. The anxiety, depression and her thoughts of not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel was overpowering.

Many of the chronic disease symptoms are manifested during this time. the depression rate increases, people eat foods that are not good for their bodies and blood sugar becomes elevated far above the normal level. Other people may have severe chest pains or nausea and have a resultant heart attack. while others may decorate their homes with toxic scented candles or use toxic nail polish removers.
