Tips for Working Your Body While Growing Your Business
Business coaches ask business owners and entrepreneurs, ‘Are you working your business or are you growing your business?’ Are you knee deep in running the business, implementing systems, faxing, developing a web site, etc? I’ve been there and it can be very stressful and frustrating. On the other hand, have you outsourced the majority of these tasks and now you’re meeting business contacts face-to-face, networking, presenting at conferences, writing e-books and articles and in the process you’re experiencing business growth? What a great place to be. The health and wellness benefits of outsourcing are twofold and here are some tips.
To stay healthy and fit and develop a well business the focus need to be on YOU!
Make healthy choices. Use a timer to remind you that it is time to take a break from the computer or desk. Get out of the office, go for a walk outdoors. Stretch periodically. Look away from the computer’s monitor and blink several times to moisten your eyes. If your eyes are dry you might consider using a liquid eye moisturizer. Keep water to drink nearby and drink it! Practice 30-60 minutes of Tai Chi or Qi Gong.
Eat smaller food portions. Use a small salad plate. Increase your intake of fruits, vegetables and fiber rich foods.
Read a book or books. I’ve read approximately 8 books this year. Listing the book titles could be another post.
My challenge is getting enough strenous exercise and sleep. We can increase our weight loss by getting adequate sleep. This is a time I have to say Delta (my sorority is Delta Sigma Theta, Inc) instead of Alpha. You will have a more restfull sleep if you turn the computer monitor off 1-2 hours before bedtime, cover the TV and lighted clock that may be in your bedroom.
Remember, you are too blessed to be stressed! Take a deep breath. Take 10 deep breaths in the AM and 10 in the PM for two weeks and you’ll notice a difference in your “stress IQ” .
A healthy body and business is more than physical fitness, Take a quiet moment periodically to be one with the universe, to medtate, and refresh your spirit. Smell the roses. A healthy and fit entrepreneur is good for business. You’ll be able to focus, be less stressed, think clearer, and increase your productivity in less time.
- As an entrepreneur the focus is on You
- Make healthy choices
- Take breaks throughout your workday
- Engage in outdoor activities, Tai Chi, Qi Gong
- Stretch your body and burn calories at the same time
- Breathe-10/10
- Take quiet time alone
- Small plate, small portions, mindful eating
- Maintain a consistent bedtime routine
- Reduce blue glare->turn off monitors, cover TV/lighted clocks
Today I didn’t get my 5 mile walk in….I’d love to hear what you’re doing for a healthy body and business. Leave your comments to share ideas.

Hi Johnetta:
Super Blog with lots of great information! You are absolute correct that to run a successful business you need to take care of your mind and body. However, it is easier said than done. I tend to start a health program and then see chocolate ice cream and there go the program…I would be interested in any ideas you have on starting and actually MAINTAINING the health program.
Also as women, we tend to take care of others first and ourselves last. We feel guilty if we actully say no to someone, but have no problem saying no to ourselves.
I like the idea about small plates to limit our portions, but then how do I stop having a lot of small plates to make up for what my brain tell me are hunger pangs.
Healthy living for me is a work in progress, and hopefully you will keep up these excellent blogs so that I can have constant encouragement.
