Societal Disconnect vs Togetherness

I have forecast 2009 to be a year for forming relationships in families, business, communities and friends. In addition I’ve written and spoken about the disconnect in society at large; the lost art of hand written letters, thank you notes and invitations. We are loosing the art of verbal communication with the advent of technological advances. This is how I feel and sometimes wonder if I’m the only one on the planet earth who think that these activities are a form of courtesy, respect and man’s humanity toward man.

Well! Low and behold I received Michele Obama’s ‘Call to Service’ email. It  addressed my very concern regarding societal disconnect. You may view the video below.

Then something else happened. While searching for a book on my Kindle, I had to access Amazon and in the process I came across a book titled “The Lonely American Drifting Apart in the Twenty-first Century”. Wow! I’m not the only one!

As some of you may know, I am an avid reader. Is this another book to put on my reading list? I promised myself I was going to read only two purchased,  hard copy, books this year. That promise escalated to three. I’ll have to wait for The Lonely American to be placed on Kindle and be satisfied knowing societal disconnect is being addressed by others,  in addition to me.

How do you feel regarding societal disconnect? What’s on your reading list for 2009?
